DIODES: Lead Times Extend to One Year, Structural Shortage Unresolved in Near Term


The electronic component supply chain is facing a severe structural shortage centered around Diodes Incorporated, creating significant procurement challenges for manufacturers globally. Lead times for many critical Diodes Inc. components, which historically averaged between 8 and 10 weeks, have rapidly expanded to 52 weeks or more. With industry data indicating that these supply constraints will likely persist and worsen throughout the rest of 2026 and into 2027, the shortage has shifted from a temporary disruption to a prolonged structural challenge that requires immediate strategic attention from supply chain managers.


The extreme extension in lead times is primarily driven by a convergence of two powerful market forces: surging artificial intelligence demand and overflow from competing manufacturers. This sudden influx of orders has overwhelmed manufacturing and backend assembly capacity, forcing widespread product allocation.


This supply squeeze is not only affecting availability but also significantly impacting procurement budgets and expanding into other critical manufacturing sectors. Diodes Inc. recently implemented a sudden price increase of approximately 20% across most of its product lines, compounding the financial strain on buyers who are already forced to seek components on the open market at premium rates. Furthermore, while the shortage heavily impacts AI data center builds, it has triggered severe allocation constraints in the automotive and industrial sectors. Automotive-grade components, specifically AEC-Q101 MOSFETs and rectifier diodes, are under immense pressure, threatening supply chains that rely on strict sourcing requirements and long qualification cycles.


Given that the underlying causes of this shortage have no immediate resolution, reactive purchasing is no longer viable, and procurement teams must pivot to proactive mitigation strategies to avoid line-down situations. Buyers should immediately audit active Bill of Materials (BOMs) to identify exposure to Diodes Inc. parts and verify the delivery status of all open purchase orders. Additionally, engineering teams must work quickly to cross-reference and qualify specification-matched alternatives from authorized suppliers that offer comparable electrical performance. Engaging with vetted, independent distributors to secure existing open-market inventory before stock is completely depleted will be critical to navigating this prolonged structural shortage.
