Samsung Electro-Mechanics discloses major MLCC supply deal tied to AI server demand
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has secured a massive supply contract for multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and power inductors, driven by the escalating infrastructure needs of artificial intelligence. The South Korean component manufacturer recently signed a 285 billion won (approximately $210 million) agreement with a major global company to supply AI server components throughout 2027. This marks the company's fifth long-term supply agreement (LTA) publicly disclosed this year, cementing its role as a critical enabler in the global AI hardware supply chain.
The rapid succession of these high-value contracts highlights a broader structural shift in the electronic component market. Combined with previous agreements—including a massive 1.0722 trillion won contract announced earlier in September—Samsung Electro-Mechanics has amassed over 3.6 trillion won (approximately $2.65 billion) in long-term supply agreements in 2026. Four of these recent MLCC and inductor agreements are scheduled for delivery throughout 2027, locking in a substantial portion of the company's revenue and ensuring supply stability for data center infrastructure.
The insatiable demand for these specialized components stems directly from the complex architectural requirements of modern processing hardware. Advanced AI servers require more than ten times the number of MLCCs compared to conventional enterprise servers, creating a massive surge in volume requirements. To meet this demand, the company's MLCC production capacity utilization rate has climbed into the high 90% range, effectively reaching maximum output and prompting a strategic shift to prioritize high-value AI and data center components over general-purpose products.
Moving forward, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is exceptionally well-positioned to capitalize on this secular growth trend. The company currently commands an impressive market share of over 40% in the highly specialized AI server MLCC segment. With financial analysts projecting the AI server MLCC market to expand at a 34% compound annual growth rate—reaching $5.8 billion by 2030—the manufacturer's aggressive contracting strategy successfully secures its dominance in a rapidly accelerating sector.
